Jang Woo Hyuk's security deposit lawsuit ends in a compulsory arbitration

Jang Woo Hyuk
's case of security deposits on a building that he owns and leased has ended in a compulsory arbitration.

As a quick recap, back in March, an educational consulting business 'A'
had filed a lawsuit against Jang Woo Hyuk demanding their 200 million KRW (approximately $184,000 USD) rental deposit back. 'A' said, "In 2008, we signed a contract with Mr. Jang to rent the 2nd-5th floor of the Gangnam Shinsadong building that he owns with a 200 million KRW security deposit and a monthly rental fee of 12.5 million KRW (approximately $11,500 USD). We gave him back the property on February 1st, when our lease ended."

Jang Woo Hyuk's side had responded, "
From the 2nd to the 5th floor, there is a lot of damage to the floor and the walls. They should have put it back to its original state, but they kept saying that the damages came from natural wear and tear usage and did not repair them. 'A' only made small repairs such as replacing the door handle, but they didn't repair anything more costly such as the floor. It would cost us a lot of money to fix it. We tried to find a middle ground through talks, but we're in a difficult position because they took it to court. We're going to do our best to talk with them, but if that does not work, we will be taking legal measures as well."

The two sides were given time to come to an agreement, but when they did not, the court ended the case in a compulsory arbitration, telling 'A' to pay Jang Woo Hyuk 32,000,000 KRW (approximately $28,000 USD).

However, Jang Woo Hyuk's side seems dissatisfied with the amount decided in the compulsory arbitration, as they commented, "
We feel wronged about the compulsory arbitration ruling".
